A small studio for work worth revisiting.
Oaler is an independent creative studio working from a single room in Copenhagen and a second desk in Tokyo. Since 2019 we've built brand identities, digital products and editorial systems for founders and cultural teams who care about the craft as much as the result.
Seven quiet years,
on purpose.
Elin Holm founded Oaler in 2019 after ten years directing brand work between Stockholm and New York. The studio began with one desk, one project and one belief — that the industry rewards volume and Oaler would reward attention instead.
Seven years later the studio still fits in one room. There are seven of us: four in Copenhagen, one in Tokyo, and two long-standing collaborators who move between. We take on roughly twelve engagements a year — small enough that the founders are in every meeting, and every drawing that leaves the studio has been seen by the same eyes.
The work is slower than the industry standard. We think that suits it. Our clients tend to agree.
Six things we believe, without exception.
Written in 2020, revised once in 2023, and pinned to the studio wall. Six lines we hold every engagement against.
- I
Say fewer things, better.
An identity that tries to say everything ends up saying nothing. We prune ruthlessly, and defend what remains.
- II
Craft is not a phase.
Every artefact that leaves the studio, from a business card to a full product, gets the same attention as the pitch deck.
- III
Slow is a strategy.
We move at the pace the work deserves. Considered work needs considered hours. No crunch, no shortcuts.
- IV
Design in the open.
No big-reveal theatre. Clients see the process daily, and the best decisions are made in the middle, together.
- V
Age well, not fast.
We build systems designed to be recognisable in ten years, not just recognised at launch.
- VI
Say no, often.
We turn away roughly a third of the briefs we receive. The best thing we can do for a bad fit is refer it on.
Four values, defended
from the first email.
- 01
Craft first
Every artefact — from a favicon to a keynote — is treated like the finished piece.
- 02
Long horizons
We stay with a brand for years, not months. Most engagements renew twice.
- 03
Honest scope
Better fit than filled calendar. We turn away roughly a third of the briefs we receive.
- 04
Sustainable pace
No crunch. Considered work asks for considered hours — from client and studio both.
In Their Voice
Clients actually say.

Brand Identity · PackagingSince 2022Oaler built us an identity that has aged rather than dated — three years in, we haven't wanted to change a single line of it.
